Securing the Local: The role of non-state Security Groups in the Struggle against Violent Extremism in Kenya, Nigeria and Indonesia
25 June 2019, 09:30 EAT - 17:00 EAT
We are very excited to invite you to our final workshop on our 3-year project on ‘Securing the Local‘, which compares non-state security groups in the contexts of violent religious extremism in Nigeria, Kenya, and Indonesia.
This research has been conducted by different universities and research institutions, including the University of Amsterdam (overall) and BIEA(Kenya), and various community-led organizations, such as Ghetto Foundation in Nairobi and MADA Trust at the coast, also in Kenya.
The morning session will be dedicated to Kenya, with speakers from our research project, CHRIPS, RUSI and Haki Africa to engage in a debate on the role of groups such as gangs (bazes, maskani) in ‘Securing the Local’. During the afternoon session speakers from our research project will present the comparative part between the three aforementioned countries.
A nice lunch will be served in the garden for all attendants.
