Workspace and storage
BIEA is able to provide work/desk space for visiting researchers in both our computer/research room and lecture/seminar room. Visiting researchers can also use our desktops to access the internet and save data. Alternatively our Wi-Fi network allows researchers with their own laptop computers to access the internet at a variety of locations around the compound, including the computer room, library, lecture/seminar room, garden and guesthouse.
Researchers wishing to conduct more technical digital analyses can use our digital mapping/image facility, while those wishing to analyse finds, including archaeological materials, can do so in our store room/finds lab. We also have a range of technical apparatus for finds analysis, including calipers, drawing boards, digital weighing scales and microscopes (including a powerful Nikon petrographic microscope). Archaeological finds can be temporarily stored at BIEA whilst under analysis and our policy on finds storage and curation can be downloaded here.
Visiting researchers will also find ample desk space in the guesthouse and guests are able to store belongings with us whilst in the field.
